Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 (HSWA), an employer must ensure that they look after, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of its workers and any other workers it influences or directs. They are also responsible for the health and safety of other people at risk from its work including customers, visitors or the general public. This is called the ‘primary duty of care’.

• ensure that any equipment used by an employee is arranged, designed, made, tested, inspected, and maintained so that it is safe for the employee to use.

This includes regular inspections, testing and maintenance (as per requirements) of electrical equipment in the workplace.
